I was astounded by this burger. I’d eaten the whole thing, along with the chips, and was remarking to myself how wonderfully the sauces and cheese complemented the juicy beefy smashed patties.
I’d ordered the Supreme burger with fries at Fat Annie’s in the historic Leeds city centre market’s food hall. I learned from the very friendly staff members, a young man and a woman who were passionate about the food, that my realisation after wolfing down the food was not uncommon. They spoke about how some diners who had eaten the whole burgers, seemingly enjoying the food, would demand a full refund because they’d felt cheated after they were told it was vegan.
There is no air of pretension or message about veganism being foisted at the market customers. There's a down to earth easy-going vibe to the food stall, decorated with white tiles, slats of wood and a graphic design of the late Schnauzer. The Supreme burger was a thing of gooey perfection. It came loaded with a double beef style smashed patty, 'cheeze', ‘FA secret sauce’, pickles, diced onions and lettuce. As mentioned, all of these elements just complemented each other superbly.
