Oil companies demanding slower transition to clean energy

Big Oil companies finally acknowledge climate change but still argue for more oil and gas production, writes Chris Tomlinson.

The International Energy Agency reports we need 46 new technologies to reach the net-zero emissions goal by 2050, but. Kerry called on the engineers and scientists in the room to bring them to market.

Darren Woods, CEO of Exxon Mobil, said his company would boost fossil fuel production and focus on capturing emissions. He touts the company’s investment in fuels made from plants and hydrogen derived from natural gas. Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of Paris-based TotalEnergies, chose to diversify his company into producing electrons. The new business plan moves away from oil to concentrate on natural gas, wind, solar and battery storage.
