Almost 60 per cent of 18-29-year-olds in Ireland would consider emigrating to lower their cost of living

, according to the Our Lives, Our Money report published by the Central Statistics Office at the beginning of December.Similarly research carried out by Red C in September for the National Youth Council of Ireland indicated more than 70 per cent of 18-24 year olds were considering moving abroad for a better quality of life elsewhere.

“The plan always was to go back,” she says, “but now that we’re here, it’ll be very hard to go back. Mam won’t like hearing that!” His primary reason for emigrating is job opportunity, having secured an entry level data analyst role. “I’ll be on €40,000,” he says, “as opposed to in Dublin maybe 35.” He compares his accommodation, a room in Bow, northeast London, for £700 per month, with bills, and close to the Tube, which he found in a couple of days, to that of his friend in Dublin. “She’s not even near a Luas line and she’s paying €800 a month without bills,” he says.

Brian Garvey , from Salthill, Galway, is currently living in Maynooth, with his uncle, while commuting to his banking job in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin. Some of my friends in Galway are working from home even though they’re dying to become independent, but they’re using the excuse that they’re saving money even though they’re 24, 25 now

“Some of my friends in Galway are working from home,” Garvey adds, “even though they’re dying to become independent, but they’re using the excuse that they’re saving money even though they’re 24, 25 now”. Kehoe rents an apartment in Berlin for €486 per month. “It has only ever increased by €51, and that was in the last two months due to the rise in heating costs,” she adds, “and I can also stay there indefinitely.”

Australia is more expensive than Ireland

Word of warning to anyone thinking of moving to Sydney where I live - the cost of living in beach areas is very high, rent, food, drink, all v expensive now. To enjoy it, you will need a job that pays well and be willing to compromise on accommodation until you find your feet

I’m 61 and I considering getting out again..

Make it unaffordabe for Irish to live here, give free houses, dole, medical cards to foreigners. Plantation, ethnic cleansing IrelandIsFull

Our government is a joke. All the Rag Tag news papers are worse and bare just as much responsibility for their lack of holding government accountable. It’s good enough to report on it, how about some criticism and alternative answers!

I've 2 cousins (25&20)from the one family leaving for Canada and Australia respectively in the next few weeks, the baby of our family (25) is considering emigrating in the summer too all his friends are leaving, no one here to socialise with and no chance of renting/owning a home

***60% of those that are left

The USA has jobs low tax freedom and opportunity. It's hard to fully understand what a huge deal that is.

They are being priced out of their own homeland whilst unvetted economic migrants are lured here with the promise of free houses and money. Its an absolute disgrace, the traitor government need to be held responsible for their crimes against the indigenous of this country.

I hear Ukraine's safe. And affordable.

- There is a housing crisis in Australia - Irish people have always travelled to live abroad. It’s what we do. For life experiences and career experiences. - London isn’t cheaper - Maynooth-Grand Canal Dock is not a “trek”, it’s an easy commute. - Same tilted article every time.
