Apple lost its position as the top smartphone manufacturer to Samsung in the first quarter of 2024, according to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC). Global smartphone shipments grew by 7.8 percent year over year, indicating a market recovery. Apple's market share declined by 10 percent, while Samsung saw a decline of less than one percent. Chinese companies Xiaomi and Transsion experienced significant growth during this period.

Apple had a brief period of victory last year when it snatched the top spot from Samsung, which had been sitting on it for 12 years.
