A frustrated Tacoma business owner sent a letter to city council members, telling them to do something about the chaos that is occurring on his street.

A Tacoma business owner sent a letter to city council members expressing his frustration at the high crime rates and drug use in the area surrounding his business. Alexx Bacon said the city needs to do more to revitalize the neighborhood.

The purpose of the letter was to address the rise in crime and drug use that has been affecting the nearby community.“The situation has become increasingly dire, with mass drug use, gang activity, and open drug dealing now a common sight in our neighborhood, not to mention a recent murder from which there is an unidentified shooter that is not in custody.

“Many express hesitation about returning to the area. Furthermore, the increase in crime has begun to adversely affect property values, creating an uncertain future for our community. This drop in business most directly affects my business but also will affect the city in budgets because of a lowering of Sales tax revenue," Bacon said.

“It is essential that we recognize the connection between policy choices and the challenges we are facing on the ground. I urge the Council to reevaluate its strategies towards tackling crime, enhancing safety, and supporting community initiatives that can curb drug use and gang involvement," Bacon said. "Policing in our area needs to be our primary focus. Homeless outreach isn't working for mass drug dealing and drug use.
