A new Arkansas law that makes it easier for minors as young as 14 to work without a permit is part of a nationwide effort by states to loosenThe Youth Hiring Act, enacted this week, ended a requirement that businesses obtain a work permit from the

Department of Labor and Licensing if they want to employ a child under 16 years old. For a child to receive the permit, a parent or guardian also had to sign off. Employers had to tell the state how many days and hours the minor was going to be working.

Seems like a good idea. US kids can compete with undocumented kids for entry-level/unskilled jobs.

Now you know why the GOP is so keen on outlawing abortion: cheap labor. I do believe this is their official party solution for taking on China's manufacturing sector. 😂

God forbid folks are paid a fair wage.

Is it actual evil or pure stupidity that is the driving force behind these Conservative politicians? The racism. The bigotry. The xenophobia. The obsessive veneration of ignorance. The total absence of compassion. What is the force here?

That's 'murica for you.

We want to begin squeezing the life out of the children starting at conception

ahh just like the good old days... memberberries having their effect in full I see

Arkansas deserves her.., but I don’t…

Slavery 2.0

Child labor restored! This is rich!

These bills will make it easier for homeschooled kids to outcompete government schooled kids as homeschooled kids can have literally years of additional work experience before graduation from high school and college.

What could possibly go wrong?

So we've gone from it being common for one person to be working, to two parents working full time and still juggling, to both parents working + little Johnny & Susie too, no doubt still struggling.

Cheap labor by why means necessary. The Leech class loves removing the 'barriers' to access cheap & unskilled labor. Their profit margins depend upon it. But, since when is your profit the public's concern?

Opportunity for kids who want to work to do so. Had my first job at 12. Learned responsibility and how to save my money.

Started working at 9 and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Learned about responsibility, accountability and work ethic.

C’mon. I was picking tobacco at the age of 13 without a permit. There is nothing wrong with teaching youth the value and rewards of hard work.

They also want child marriage and gun rights for children? The depths they sink to are never ending.

I think allowing teens to work (still within state labor laws) without strapping them with obtaining permits is helpful to teens who want to work, or need to work to save for cars/college. State labor laws will ensure that appropriate rules/times are followed for teens who work.

JuanitaIguana1 Bad news

Arkansas is known for being backwards thinking. This isn’t helping.

When I was young , we could get a work permit at 14yrs old, it allowed is to work a couple hrs a day after school, we learned the value of a dollar at a young age.

Dumbing down of society; child abuse built in for kicks.

The bill allows kids join apprenticeships or internships without petitioning for a permit. It’s aimed at Arkansas’s trade economy; and allow kids to ease into a trade craft instead of hitting the ground running after high school.

Exploiting children in AK.

Wtf

I got my first job at 16 which was the minimum. I would have worked sooner if I could have as I was trying to buy a car and save money for school. I think this is ok in the right circumstances.

I think I heard Frances Perkins rolling over in her grave. Seriously?

Literally anything but just letting some different looking/sounding people into the country

Increasingly, pick your poison: have your kids get shot at school or killed or maimed in industrial accidents. AmericaFirst SarahHuckabee

Wow

Same state defunding public schools is now making child labor easier. So we want to be stupid and barbaric. Got it. This is a cycle that will feed on itself.

Why in the world is THIS a republican priority?

tHe mOsT rIcH cOuNtRy iN tHe wOrlD 🤪 the most rich THIRD WORLD country in the world, fixed

That is quite the spin.

It's the only way we can compete with China. Right, Republicans? What's the alternative? Tax the wealthy and corporations more? Preposterous.

After harassing developing countries for decades over child labour, guess who now thinks it's a cool idea?

To bad most places have raised minimum wage to the point of choking out a lot of opportunities for kids wanting to work. A lot of places won’t hire you unless you are 18.

The Arkansas pig rewinds the clock. Shocked I tell you
