Rahway, N.J.-based Merck posted net income of $2.821 billion, or $1.11 a share, for the quarter, down from $4.310 billion, or $1.70 a share, in the year-earlier period. Adjusted per-share earnings came to $1.40, ahead of the $1.32 FactSet consensus. Sales fell 9% to $14.487 billion from $15.
