Over the past few days, the viral Pork Nasi Kandar has been “making its rounds” on social media. PRESMA found the dish to be controversial and confusing and one may wonder if the business has somehow been affected by the news.
Suresh Gnanasekaran, the owner of Pumbaa’s Non-Halal Nasi Lemak and Nasi Kandar said that business is booming following the viral news about his controversial dish. In other words, social media came in handy in helping Suresh to market his business. In an interview with the New Straits Times, Suresh assured the public that he has no intentions to confuse anyone, hence the obvious Non-Halal signs.
He also insisted that he had not done anything wrong because he had never wanted to insult or offend anyone with his business. Suresh’s stall is located at a Chinese restaurant in Damansara Jaya and not near any residential area, and he confirmed that his customers are typically non-Muslims. In another interview, the 38-year-old business operator also said that it has only been 3 weeks since he started running the Pork Nasi Kandar business. Despite his controversial dish, Suresh admitted that he has been receiving supportive messages via his social media following the viral news. The menu speaks for itself.
