A significant barrier is the Jones Act — a law requiring shipping between American ports to be done by American ships.
Novaporte vice-president of operations and corporate development Kathleen Yurchesyn: “There’s nowhere else on the East Coast of North America that is doing this on any kind of large forum, but the industry is demanding a port asset for this type of development. Novaporte and the Sydney harbour are suited for exactly that.
“It is the single-biggest opportunity to ever face our region,” Yurchesyn said of the green energy industry, fed by wind power.
