trial, Brigadier Bongani Gininda says accused four, Mthokoziseni Maphisa was regarded as a suspect by the initial investigating team probing the murder, however that investigation did not yield results.
Gininda is being cross-examined by the defence in the Pretoria High Court. Maphisa and four others are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder. He says their investigation was initially centred around accused one and two, however the names of the other accused came up in various witness statements Gininda says, “When I was talking to Constable Zungu and his father, it was about accused one and two. What was also contained in the docket – what I knew but I had not approached the suspect is that in as far as the docket is concerned, accused four was cited by the previous investigating team. ”
“He was once a suspect, they pursued him but didn’t make headway. That information was coming from the father of the deceased that accused four may be involved but that investigating team did not succeed in linking him,” he adds.
