This has emerged following a meeting on Gauteng’s East Rand of the party’s National Working Committee with party leaders in Gauteng to discuss the decline of support in the province. Several options were considered including disbanding the two provinces, leaving them as they are or capacitating them.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the decision will only be taken after their NEC meeting next year. Mbalula says, “No structures disbanded, all matters will be considered, and the final decision will be taken in January next year. We would have met this week on our final NEC meeting but we have two state visits that are taking place back to back. We also have the SACP National Congress and we also have the SASCO Congress, so it’s not going to give us adequate time to get the NEC to sit post the 16th and consider the matters.
