The Bacolod City government has allocated P5 million for the repair of 31 stalls at the Central Public Market in Barangay 12 that were damaged by a fire in December. City Engineer Loben Rafael Ceballos stated that 18 completely destroyed stalls have been cleared and a repair plan prioritizing these structures has been submitted. The market-in-charge is working with 12 business owners whose stalls suffered partial damage to determine if they wish to dismantle their structures.
The repairs will address crucial infrastructure issues, including water supply, electrical connections, roofing, insulation, and flooring. However, the immediate focus will be on the most severely damaged stalls. Once the bidding process is completed, repairs will commence using a standardized design for the affected stalls. The fire caused an estimated P4.75 million in damage to businesses. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Western Visayas reported that the fire likely originated from an electrical source. Mayor Albee Benitez, along with local officials and Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, provided financial assistance to the affected stall owners. Those with entirely destroyed stalls received a total of P50,000, while those with partial damage were given P25,000
