Amid slow-moving talks, President Trump says the U.S. will apply a tariff of 10 percent on about $300 billion worth of products from China on Sept. 1. (Replaces deleted tweet to add dropped “billion.“)

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced Thursday the U.S. will apply a new tariff of 10% on about $300 billion worth of products from China beginning Sept. 1, escalating the two countries’ festering trade dispute. Stocks immediately tumbled on the news. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which had been up nearly 300 points earlier, was down nearly 200 points soon after Trump’s tweets.

Trump’s threats come after a U.S. delegation returned to Washington from what the White House described as “constructive” trade talks. The negotiations were expected to resume in Washington in September, though exact dates were not announced.

And give the American taxpayers money to the industries that are hurting because of said tariffs... this man really is an idiot

Trump is playing Russian Roulette with our money and economy. Look at his money past and tell me, Im, wrong.

Trade protectionism is an anti-business tenet of the far left. Trump’s fascination with tariffs is bizarre.

How to make the market swing over 500 points in one day.

Well, makes sense. China was “killing” us by allowing even deplorables to own 60” plasma TVs for $299. Yes, they’re totally taking advantage of the US. 🙄

Good. Very good.

This dude is a one trick pony.

Better than allow China to continue cheating America

Why not be clear. The $300b in new taxes are on US consumers.

Wow.

Hy

Well, he is 'Tariff Man', aka 'Tax Man' after all. And Republicans are cheering the self described 'Tax Man' as their President. Welcome to bizarro world.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE AN IDIOT IN THE WHITEHOUSE, Anyone for golf?

And how much socialism will he use to keep rich farmers off his back?

This is so his rich buddies can buy more stock. Tweet insiders trading.

tariffs good! U.S. manufacturing activity slowed to a near three-year low in July and hiring at factories shifted into lower gear, suggesting a further loss of momentum in economic growth early in the third quarter as trade tensions between Washington and Beijing persist.

Another Disaster.

His non existent trade policies show. He claimed, among hundreds of other falsities that he was a “great negotiator” turns out that’s another lie. He should know that he cannot brow beat countries into submission like he does the GOP.

DAB4Pres Yea, I think I did read Trump's new book,, 'The art of the deal-breaker' Pretty sure the book was a bestseller or soon will be.

... because the media might have 6 hours of talking about dem debates and not the evil clown.

Trump: ‘Tariff wars are easy to win...’ 🙄

CriminalTrump Anybody seen a copy of the check China sent for the tariffs? tariffCheck

His threats always hurt people in the USA. He needs to stop talking.

If so, China will slap us with more Tariffs. It will never end. China Ambassador stated they can outlast this longer because people in China live cheaper than people in America.

Trump destroys everything including business and relationships. He bankrupts businesses and destroys marriages. He’s a mirror image of his followers

I’ll believe it when I see it.

'I'll show you!'

Oh so now it's $300 billion. A few minutes ago it was just $300. Inflation?

Hilarious that he believes his bullying bluffs are an actual tactic.

Where are these tariffs going? Into Trump’s pocket?

And the treasury suddenly had the money politicians love to spend

He’ll back down. He always does. Weakest president in history.

What's it called when you keep doing the same thing hoping for a different result?
