The Department of Agriculture said Wednesday that fish cage operators can now resume feeding their fish stocks in Taal Lake as the water quality has improved.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar based the assurance on tests conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from Jan. 14 to 30. The results showed that the level of dissolved oxygen in the lake needed for fish to grow and survive is now below critical level.BFAR 4-A Director Sammy Malvas, meanwhile, warned fish cage owners not to overfeed the fish to avoid accumulation of toxic ammonia.

Since the eruption of Taal Volcano on Jan. 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has prohibited entry to Taal Volcano Island, nearby lakeshore, and communities within the seven-kilometer zone danger zone.
