The World Bank projects global remittances will drop 20% in 2020, which it says may be the sharpest decline in recent history

have been bolstering their digital tools as of late, and the pandemic could expose more consumers to their online offerings and boost their performances too.

The World Bank does, however, expect remittance growth to pick back up to some degree in 2021, so firms that attract consumers with digital offerings in 2020 could rebound. It projects remittance volume to LMIC to rise 5.6% in 2021, and for the situation to improve in various regions as well. These improvements may not immediately make up for the losses remittance firms take in 2020, but they may help them begin to recover from the pandemic when it subsides.
