The patients who received hydroxychloroquine tended to be more severely ill than those who did not receive the drug. Authors of both studies noted that randomized controlled trials — which assign patients either to the medication or a placebo control at random —are needed.

Fake news. Observational studies are it real studies and lot of limitation so not considered scientific. They may generate hypothesis for further studies.
I hope solutions are found soon. Different studies are having different results. Based on what I have read, I would say we still have a ways to go. All indications have been that HCQ is helpful at onset but not so much after a certain level of disease progression.
