Those at risk of losing out on the money are low-income people who are not legally required to file a tax return, meaning they earn less than $12,200 a year and may lack an easy internet connection. The group includes a significant number of Latino and Black people. The majority of stimulus check recipients were able to get the money automatically because they filed their 2018 or 2019 taxes already.
