Trade Minister Birmo has hit back at China after the Communist nation announced it is opening an anti-dumping investigation into Australia’s wine imports.

Trade Minister Simon Birmingham has hit back at China after the Communist nation announced it is opening an anti-dumping investigation into Australia’s wine imports. Beijing’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Tuesday that it will determine whether Australian winemakers exported their wines into China at deliberately low prices in order to drive out local competition and secure a great market share. Minister Birmingham said the decision was “very disappointing”.

“Australian wine is highly sought after in China because of its quality. Australian wine is not sold at below market prices and exports are not subsidised.” The move follows high profile trade disputes over Australian beef and barley exports in April. Bilateral relations with China have soured since the government lead the worldwide call for an investigation into the origins of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
