The Yoruba ethnic group in Kwara and Kogi states has demanded a merger with their kith and kin in the South-West region in Nigeria through boundary adjustment.

According to the National President of the group, Pa Joseph Aderibigbe, who was the first Secretary to Kwara State Government when it was created in 1967, the group had submitted a memorandum to the 9th National Assembly’s Committee on Review of the Nigerian Constitution, with a demand for the merging of the Yoruba of Kwara and Kogi states with their kith and kin in the South-West Region through boundary adjustment.

The ethnic nationality also recommended that the six geo-political zones should be increased to eight where the states “would choose which geo-political zone to belong based on historical, cultural, linguistic and other affiliations.” The document titled, ‘Constitutional review to address the entrenched imbalances and inequities in the structures, institutions and practices that have subjected ethnic and religious minorities to discrimination, disempowerment an subjugation in Nigeria and in Kaduna State in particular,’ was signed by the President of SOKAPU, Jonathan Asake, and Secretary-General, Stephen Mallan.

What of Ilorin that is ruled by a Fulani emir, is it Yoruba or Fulani?

Best steps so far, we need to start tackling the issue for the foundation. Let the issue be sponsor in NASS.

This is the news I have been waiting all my life to hear.

Yoruba's in North central are free to move to the south West nobody is stopping them.

Good development. Create Ijebu State from the present Ogun State so that Ogun West wld be freed from the crushing weight of Ogun Central and Ogun East.

This is getting serious

Interesting.

Getting prepared for the future be that ooo

It's a welcome development, we can have Kabba-Ekiti, Iffe-Ekiti, Oro-Ekiti, Omu Aran Ekiti etc

Geopolitical zone is not in the constitution and cannot be legislated upon by the NASS. Instead, they should ask for the specific state(s) in the south-west they want to merge into.

Are they realizing now that merging them with Northern Protectorate is contrary to their will and self determination is their right? But when Igbos say self determination (Biafra) is their right they will stand against it. We will all have sense in this country one day.

ayemojubar This is the time. We must not relent on this Yoruba nation. Enough is enough. MBuhari shd hold on to his North. USinNigeria UKinNigeria UN Yoruba nation are tired of this sectional govt. Help us out.

Then the Igbos in Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Benue and Kogi should be on their way to the eastern Nigeria

That's where they naturally belong. The military deliberately distorted the historical and geographical facts, which only leads to further complexities and disunity.

Oke Ero should just merge with Ekiti State jejely.
