Thousands of coronavirus cases went unreported for days in the UK because officials exceeded the data limit on their Excel spreadsheet

The UK's health authorities missed 16,000 coronavirus cases in the space of a week due to a shambolic IT failure.

The extraordinary admission means that daily new cases were significantly higher than they initially appeared to be. On September 30, the reported number of new daily cases was 7,108, compared to the revised figure of 10,157. On October 31, the reported figure was 6,914, and the revised figure was 11,057. On October 2, the reported figure was 6,968 and the revised figure was 11,754,Michael Brodie, PHE's interim chief executive, said that officials had identified an issue in the "data load" process which means the results were not uploaded to the national database.

Need backup systems!!!

Shocker , a new course needs to be introduced on udemy - 'Rocket science Excel- how not to exceed data limits during a pandemic'

Considering Bill Gates is orchestrating this whole thing, you’d think his Microsoft excel spreadsheet would be bullet proof🤔

🤣😅😂😂😂

A world beating track & trace system! excelgate Excel

vaguibraga hauahuhauhauh pqp

Excel ! Unbelievable.

Great picture business insider. You must be a super unbiased source of information.

British government is the kid who tells 'my dog ate my homework' (Our government is the other kid who says 'Ah chinga! Dejaron tarea?')

Wowzer

This is truly where our government inherited it's mediocrity ...

Data on spreadsheets?

inov8ive1 What kind of a dumb idiot would even consider using an excel spreadsheet for this.... SERCO and Dido Harding?

Para pasar todo ese data a Basic jajajaja cc ivanstalyn

You'd think officials would use something like SQL (LITERALLY FREE IF YOU GO OPEN SOURCE) but okay, sure, use Excel instead. 🙄😒

Assuming they were using this formula:VLOOKUP(A2,’spreadsheetofempartygoers’!$A:$B,2,false)

Surely, I lived over 2000 years ago and I'd have easily sorted this. Is UK being run by kids?

AlexanderDerina 🥺🥺

Shame Britain is run on a limited excel sheet. Message: we dont care at all.

That face tho

Yo UK government, I'm a data analyst, hire me. Excel isn't the only tool available out there you know.

Hahahahahah omg. They wer using Excel. Hahahahahahah

🤦🏻‍♀️

Where is all our tax money going? Boris hoarding it for a second cleaner and a nanny?

talibambu

Excel limitation. Honestly. Surely they have someone who is aware / familiar with data analytical tools that don’t have this restriction. Are children running the country in a pandemic?

Mungkin di indonesia banyak yang unreported karena petugasnya harus isi billing dulu di warnet kali ya

Whoever was in charge of the reporting should have been aware of what Excel can and can't do so they should be sacked or resign regardless - along with BorisJohnson, CMO_England, uksciencechief and didoharding.

heartstring1111 Their Prime Minister is a doozy too. No one is as bad as Trump though. It's a record of crimes and idiocies that will never be exceeded.

lmao but excel do be hard to use tho 🤣🤣

WTH! Excel is being used for COVID?

FakeNewsMediaClowns

Absolutely atrocious and inexcusable !! this Government needs to wake up to OpenSource any CIO in civvy street would be fired for this level of incompetence!!

MS Excel makers: 'If we put over a million rows with an unlimited number of sheets for each workbook, no amount of data can exceed that!' UK Officials: Hold my beer!

pvesterbacka

No way

Health care system around the world is decayed! They’ve been hiding behind their resumes and titles like that will protect them from incompetence... just say Doctor and magically I’ll have immunity against it cuz I’m above everything and entitled to everything even incompetence!

Hilarious if it wasn't so sad. This seems to be the same unprofessional way the British government is handling Brexit :-o BorisJohnson

Stupidity & negligence to use an Excel spreadsheet, a glorified calculator, for data needing programmable, statistical software for management. Defies belief 😳 I ran a multi-country study myself for less than billions. You've been ripped off 💰COVID19

OmarTamo19

Risible..

Should’ve used CausalHQ

Ladyfuckwit And still people refuse to believe that Bill Gates is in on the conspiracy.

Is that real or joke?

katyfairman Sort them out

🧐

Wait what?🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣

For a governmental spreadsheet system, dealing with £billions and 67million people, who do they think they are fooling with this, 'dog ate my homework' excuse

Nice illustration picture.

bencoates1 looks like NL is doing better than UK after all! They were under-reporting all this time!

This is really serious

These are not so smart medical cover ups and seems intentional to avoid liabilities in UK government.

AdamBienkov Stop this s***. Just stop. Please. Stop. AlladinNoons wktt_5

che

Ugh. These men are so disgusting looking. Creepers.

Never knew they ran out lmao

Bullshit

Haha trump look alike pulling a trump do alike
