AMPANG: A former company director claimed trial at a Magistrate's Court here to a charge of cheating a former journalist over a bungalow lot purchase involving RM32,000 eight years ago.

Mohd Asri Hasan, 55, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Normaizan Rahim.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly cheated 50-year-old Faiza Zainudin into buying a bungalow lot that did not exist, thus inducing the victim to hand over RM32,000 through a bank account. The offence was allegedly committed at JPJ-3A , Jalan Jelatek Satu, Jelatek Business Park here at 4pm on March 5,2012 and if found guilty of the charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Mohd Asri faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence, fine and whipping upon sentencing.The accused was not represented and asked for a lower bail amount on the grounds that he was no longer working.
