Power consumption hasn't been sacrificed at the altar of performance, however—Apple says the M1 enables battery life up to two times longer than previous-generation Macs. Another factor in power consumption: The chip is manufactured on a 5-nanometer process. In comparison, Intel chips have fallen behind on the performance-power consumption curve; Intel is Apple outlined its application migration strategy and reiterated that current iOS applications will be able to run on M1 chips.
