Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association National Secretary Gerard Dwyer says a royal commission should be called over questions of pay and conditions in the horticulture industry.

“We’ve had a numerous number of inquiries into this sector in the past decade and all that finishes up happening is we get an inquiry, we get a report, and nothing changes,” he told Sky News host Alan Jones.

Mr Dwyer said other parts of the horticulture industry pay their workers fairly and there is enough money to pay workers correctly. “We want a virtuous supply chain where workers are getting paid properly, the farmers are getting a fair deal, the truck drivers are getting a fair deal.”
