Here's how a New Yorker moved to London and started a multi-million-dollar wellness company:

New York-born and now London-based, more than 10 years ago, Kara Rosen swapped her beige convenience meals for a largely plant-based diet. The immediate changes Rosen saw in her health and well-being led her to launch the plant-powered drinks brandin 2012. The business has grown from a small line of juices squeezed and bottled in Rosen’s kitchen to one with a multi-million-dollar turnover and nationwide stockists, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Ocado and Amazon.

Wellness is a word that has been used so much in some ways it’s lost its meaning—for you in 2021—what does wellness mean to you? Wellness is ultimately about feeling good— inside and out. Like many simple ideas, it’s been made increasingly convoluted but the concept itself has always been straight-forward. How you eat, move, think and sleep all impact how you feel. Simply being more mindful of how you do each of those things, and therefore investing in yourself, has huge and proven benefits for your body and mind.

I know you’ve been inspired by your own battles with the medical industry, since launching in 2012, have you noticed any changes in the acceptance of holistic medical practices and ideas in traditional medicine? Without a doubt. When we launched we were a real pioneer, but we knew that this holistic approach to wellness was going to become a fundamental part of how people live their lives. As the scientific support for this way of life has mounted, we’ve definitely seen a shift in the dialogue around public health. In the UK, we’re incredibly lucky to have the NHS, which has been forward-thinking in its adoption of holistic practices.
