Businesses are calling on the government to boost paid parental leave and expand access to childcare in a push to grow the economy.

The Business Council of Australia is expected to release its reform blueprint which extends the childcare subsidy from 85 to 95 per cent for lower income households.

Under the plan, paid parental leave could be extended to 26 weeks for couples who share the entitlement and would allow families to decide how many weeks of leave each parent would take. Modelling suggests the proposed reforms could boost the economy by up to $5 billion each year.
