Brisbane's Lord Mayor has called on the state government for 'fair rules' when it comes to crowd capacity at live music venues and sporting stadiums.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is calling on the state government to allow full houses at music venues, criticising a "double standard" between COVID-19 restrictions on capacity between sport and live music events. The Lord Mayor leads renewed calls for the state government to relax COVID-19 restrictions on capacity at live music venues

Mr Schrinner has called for live music venues to be allowed to operate at full capacity again given stadiums had been filled with sporting fans, warning the live music industry is "teetering on the edge of extinction" on ABC Radio Brisbane. He said exceptions allowing large sporting events to go ahead have been positive and well-received but "rightly, some other industries that are asking why they can't have similar arrangements in place"."Live music is one of those industries that supports a lot of jobs. The economic research shows that every dollar invested into live music puts three dollars back into the economy," the Lord Mayor said.

"What that means is that the people that work in those venues, and the whole industry that is supported by those venues, are really struggling. They're teetering on the edge at the moment."There are COVID-19 protocols which limit capacity and dance floors in place at music venues impacting businesses.

Blame vaccinations roll out.

The entire Australian arts sector should work out some way so zero of the billions of dollars they make each year never ever make it to the state and federal governments ever again.

Maybe this would not have to be if performers, artists, sportspeople etc didn’t put such a high value on their talents. The same goes double for the promoters. Who wants to be a millionaire? Everyone!

Right! But do we want this sort of mingling?
