Sydney’s extended lockdown has forced the federal and NSW governments to put together a relief package for businesses as the state braces for a four to six-week lockdown extension due to a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases.

The new support measures follow off the back of an outbreak in NSW which the prime minister described as both “severe” and “dangerous”.

Individuals who have lost more than 20 hours of work a week in the Sydney metropolitan area could be eligible to receive up to $600. Sole traders could be eligible for up to $1,000 per week and tax exemptions for small business will also be included.
