Victoria’s hospitality sector is crying out for financial support and clarity on the way forward amid a series of harsh restrictions which have placed a direct cost on small businesses.

Restaurant owner Luke Stepsys accused the Andrews government of “killing a mouse with a missile” with the state’s latest crackdown on the Delta outbreak.

The state’s exit from stay-at-home measures has been accompanied by an array of tough restrictions on business designed to stamp out any remnants of the Delta variant in the community. Mr Stepsys said Melbourne’s five lockdowns have been “shattering” for the hospitality industry, adding"we’re back to where we were potentially 17 months ago and nothing’s changed".“The restrictions to re-open are unworkable.”

“If vaccinations are the answer, where is the roadmap post vaccination. What’s the target to hit?” he asked. “They’ve paid the biggest financial price, the greatest mental and emotional and health costs of any other sector of the community.
