Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has issued an order prohibiting anyone, including private businesses, from mandating COVID-19 shots for workers. The Biden administration plans to require employers with more than 100 workers to mandate vaccinations or weekly tests.

The move comes as the Biden administration is set to issue rules requiring employers with more than 100 workers to be vaccinated or test weekly for the coronavirus. Several major companies, including Texas-based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have said they would abide by the federal mandate.

“No entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19,” Abbott wrote in his order.

Abbott, who was previously vaccinated and also later tested positive for COVID-19, noted in his order that “vaccines are strongly encouraged for those eligible to receive one, but must always be voluntary for Texans.”Montana has passed a law preventing employers from mandating workers get vaccines, and a number of states have explicitly said schools cannot require vaccinations.

Abbott previously barred vaccine mandates by state and local government agencies, but until now had let private companies make their own rules for their workers. It was not immediately clear if Abbott’s latest executive order would face a quick court challenge.

I think he is a man with no understanding of the harm he is causing or just a political villain with no conscience.

This man does not love Texans!!

Can he legally do that?

Wait until private industry starts leaving TX because of his total disregard for human life. Jobs will be lost, tax revenue, etc. don't mess with the private sector in a capitalistic society. It will back fire on him.

it's really simple. you either get the Vax or not. both come with consequences. if you choose not then you might just loose your job. private businesses have the right to decide if they want vaxed employees or not

ToxicRottenPresident Trump told Abbott to JUMP AGAIN!!

I wouldn’t live, work or ever travel to this violent, unsafe state due to this guy mandating healthcare for women, allowing anyone to have a gun, & now mandating bans on allowing companies to operate. Wow suppression of a dictator

Both are wrong. If Governor Abbott is on the side that businesses have the same rights as people under “Citizens United vs FEC”, they should have the right to choose if their employees should be vacinated. Biden should not mandate because of that same ruling.

Can you teach GovKathyHochul how it’s done?

flatten his tires already

Where are the cries of communism from the right?🤔

The reds (states) keep throwing those 'small government' jabs against mandating Americans using every tool in our arsenal to fight this plague war.

Everyone on here supporting Abbott is wrong. His order won't stand and that's just the way it is. You can bitch and stomp your feet now or do it later, your choice.

But he still hasn’t done anything about the power grid. With winter not to far away.

Nope, this is getting ridiculous.

What happens when some of those people not wearing masks develop Covid, and then pass out candy to children on Halloween?

So much for 'businesses can decide for themselves'

That sounds like an overreaching mandate into private business by Abbott. He just doesn't care about the health and lives of born Texans.

AbbottFailedTexasAgain

Kinda feels like governmental overreach. How do Republicans feel about telling employers who they can and can't fire?

Good. FJB

FuckJoeBiden

Gee, I used to think that only the skyline and egos were bigger in Texas. Gosh, was I wrong! Seemingly, stupidity and ignorance are pretty big in Texas, as well — starting at the top with GovAbbott.

This one probably going through court system! Abbot probably unconstitutional

State government's determine laws just like TRUMP did and got sued for it over 100 times most likely

Federal over state. Seems obvious.

Genuflecting to a base of halfwitted rubes.

God you are too dumb to be in politics. Can we PLEASE have minimum intelligence tests for political candidates?

Abbott is anti-business. Businesses lose money when their employees are sick, and cannot work. Insurance premiums are most definitely going to be increasing this open enrollment, and the business share will increase, too. Abbott must have $$$ invested in healthcare.

Bring on the lawsuits!

So looks like government overreach is an acceptable way to pass legislation when in a red state….I see no reason why the President couldn’t do the same. Mandatory Vaccination, Infrastructure at 3.5T and National Voting Regulation all via Executive Order. Yeah, it would be fun.

DebBRVA This will never end!

_Politics Just like Florida. Will the judge overturn it? Will the one above him allow it to go thru. Trump and McConnell horrible judges are in place all over
