Finance Minister Zafrul, rebutting critics, says huge allocation for Bumis makes numerical sense

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has defended Putrajaya’s decision to earmark a large share of next year’s federal budget for the Bumiputera communities, calling the criticism against it disheartening as he accused detractors of cherry-picking portions of the spending plan.

“In fact, since I became Finance Minister, we at the Finance Ministry have always crafted the annual budget based on needs, not race, religion or creed,” he added. But critics of the government alleged less than a tenth had been allocated for ethnic minorities — just RM300 million compared to RM11.4 billion slotted for the ethnic majority communities.

“Here’s an undeniable fact: Close to 70 per cent of Malaysians are Bumiputera, who include indigenous groups from Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the Orang Asli,” he wrote.

If the allocation was meant to be by needs, then why do we bring up the segregation by Race? Why not say that 113Bil will be allocated for all those in the B40 classification. It doesn't matter what race these group of ppl belong too, as long as rhey are provided equal opportunty

Yes yes we know. The issue is how much actually flow down to help those really in need. Why don't you give us a breakdown and a flow chart and we'll let you know whether you make sense or not

So is Abt bumi is not Abt economy now!!!!

Malays 50%, Bumis 20% and non-Malays 30%

The truth is out. The numbers speak for themselves

Nep only benefits a select few while the rest of the majority in poverty

NEP till today failed. Wtf you taking about ?

This former banker's head got kicked by a water buffalo

Yes but Chinese 30% population indian 8%

Makes sense if you judge people only by the colour of their skin. He may sound and look modern but this politician is just another old fashioned racist.

No wonder they never have the guts to sign ICERD ? The most racist country in the world...sad 😭😭😭

tzafrul_aziz are you actually saying the Malays are trailing behind the kelings? They are the most marginalised race in the country. Notwithstanding... it is completely RACIST to budget based on race. We well know that only the UMNO elites will benefit. Can you try being smart?

The logic is straightforward: why is the dominant community continues to be left behind after decades of ruling with so many allocations given

of cos

what about T20 of the 70%? Still need help?

So it's about absolute numbers, tzafrul_aziz? Not about genuine need across the board? So why should the rich, who don't need help, be helped? Are u implementing strict means testing to ensure that the 'huge allocation' only goes to the deserving?

Numerical sense .. I like that word . So can u give allocation per capita .. ya drill down t numbers if u dare .. nonsense

Numerical.. Ok true.. Yet past 40years billions given yet still poor.. Fact is it never reach the ones who needed the help.. Srew u finance minister.. Forever saying that malays always behind Chinese and indian.. How true is this..really

BS

Most numerical from MOF never made sense. Our economy is shit. The lebaiS in the govt are useless. The leaders in the govt busy making money for themselves instead working for the Rakyat. The Bumi's don't pay income tax according to ThE Edge. Numerically, we are fucked!

Numerical sense ? Of course

Bullshit.. Bumiputera are our brother's n sister's too but not the crony of blood suckers.. Don't mind if the allocation reach direct to the beneficiaries but does it work like that? tzafrul_aziz IsmailSabri60 anwaribrahim

Rubbish political statement

Is the money meant for helping the poor or to make the rich richer?

Actually tzafrul_aziz why does the allocation has to go by race ya? Shouldn't the allocation be focusing on B40 segment (regardless of race) or something like that. You re actually promoting apartheid era policy. Very very dissapointing...

Why everything we do has to be race based? Govt should be helping all Malaysian based on merit.

Policy is good but it has been abused for the benefited of the few. Do you wanna guess how wealthy Tun Daim is? Imagine one billion RM distributed to 1000 Malays, how many millionaires would be created then? Look at how many billions have been reserved for them over 40 yrs?

Because all Bumis are poor, and all Chinese and Indians are rich. That is why if you are a Bumi, you get all the help from government, and if you are Chinese or Indian, you get no help. Ok, we got it tzafrul_aziz . You are very smart. Really brilliant logic there.

It has turned into kleptocracy. Some people are still sleeping. Wake up!!!?

Sure. Then why some people don't pay more taxes then based on your argument?

Racist

It should never be about equity ownership. Instead lift us out of poverty. How can a family in B40 own equity when it's starving day after day?

Sure sure. There is nothing not making sense.

Make sense . Bcos Bumis Support the Present Govt. Others Support the DAP especially. So. Bumis deserve all.

Make sense? The fact that Bumis are still being left behind after more than 6 decades of UMNO rule it could be done by design to ensure that Bumis in UMNO continue to rig the system for their own benefit and not for the benefit of the poor. Same tune diff era

70%xRM11.7b = RM8.19b. numerical ?
