The Ontario government is sending $10 million to Invest Ottawa for grants to cover money lost because of the occupation of downtown streets earlier this winter.

Christine Leadman of the Bank Street Business Improvement Area and Joe Thottungal, the owner of the Thali restaurant on O'Connor, say businesses need government support after losing weeks of revenue. On Friday, a provincial news release announced a similar fund in the amount of $10 million. Like the federal money, Invest Ottawa will co-ordinate it and give small businesses grants of up to $5,000.

Nazmi Fawaz co-owns Bello Uomo, a men's clothing store on Sparks Street that only reopened Wednesday after being shuttered for four weeks because of the protest and subsequent street closures. He said rent alone is more than what's being offered by the province, not to mention the cost of insurance, an accountant, and paying suppliers.Nazmi Fawaz co-owns Bello Uomo, a men's clothing store on Sparks Street.

"Tourism has a major role to play in the recovery of our community; in the short term, we encourage Ottawans to support the downtown as we resume our role as a welcoming, safe, inclusive destination," said Ottawa Tourism President and CEO Michael Crockatt in the release.

But people on ODSPoverty get nothing

Freedom truckers should pay 💰 not tax payers

I’m happy that Ottawa will receive some help. However, I hope this is coming out of the convoy funds that were raised and not out of our tax dollars?

Payoff

fordnation , did the police give any tickets for illegal parking to anyone? Why should the taxpayers pay to a few people who should know that in a democracy there will be protests outside the parliament if people do not agree with the government?

😂🤦‍♂️

Charge it back to the protesters. With interest.

And all vehicles that was impounded should be sold and help this fund as well

Didn't the Federal government already do this because fordnation tried to ignore the situation in Ottawa? More Ford Electioneering! DougFordIsAShittyPerson NeverVoteConservative

lol They haven't been open for two years? I can assure you,the thousands of Canadian citizens who visited Ottawa spent money on food: + gase/diesel (before Trudeau made it illegal to spend money on fuel), etc.

It would have been much cheaper if the Ontario government had done their job in the first place and never allowed the occupation to happen.

Remind me, how much did MB get for rail line loss of business and rail line damage, and statue damage? Never mind.

Big deal!! The government has $1 billion to pay to CBS to lie to us.

?

All going to fordnation's buddy on the Ottawa Police Board?

Make those treasonous truckers who illegally occupied our national capital reimburse us for every penny!

Ontario here is another carrot for your vote. I’ll just keep on cranking them out one by one just before the election.

That won't be close enough to cover the costs of the occupation. Business closures, people couldn't go to work. 11.5M is peanuts.

Let's never forget that the Ottawa police and Ford sat back and let this happen.

Are they going after the truckers and leaders?
