KOTA KINABALU: A fire gutted two fishing boats and a sundry shop close to the Sabah Fish Marketing (SAFMA) complex area at about 5.50am Monday (March 21).

Roslinda Sajirin, 31, who was trapped in the sundry shop, was rescued unhurt by firemen who managed to put out the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other adjacent buildings in the city's central market area.

According to a Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman, the two fishing boats docked along the jetty were completely destroyed while about 30% of the sundry shop was razed. He said they received a distress call at 5.58am and managed to bring the fire under control by 6.31am, before ending the operation at 10.20am.In an unrelated incident, a 59-year-old woman suffered burns to her body when a fire razed a teacher's quarters at SMK Weston in the Beaufort district on Sunday night.Article type: metered
