KOTA KINABALU: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), which has properties overseas, is taking precautions to ensure that the so-called heirs of the Sulu sultanate do not attempt to get hold of its assets.

“We will ensure our officers our representatives outside the country will look after our assets,” said its chairman Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun.

She said they were aware of the recent development involving PETRONAS subsidiary companies in Luxembourg and were closely watching the matter.“Yes, Mara also has assets outside the country. We will later refer to our lawyer as well to monitor ,” she said after an event here on Wednesday . It was reported on Tuesday that the self-proclaimed heirs of the Sulu sultanate claimed to have seized the assets of two PETRONAS companies in Luxembourg but questions have been raised over the so-called “seizure”.

A check by The Star found that PETRONAS Azerbaijan’s 15.5% stake in Azerbaijan’s largest gas field Shah Deniz in the Caspian Sea was sold to an Azerbaijani oil company, SOCAR , British BP and Russian Lukoil .
