KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — There have been many changes to the local film industry over the years, but not all of them have been good or welcome, said award-winning Malaysian actor Datin Sofia Jane.

"You always end up with good intentions but there's only so much you can do because you don't have the last say in whether things can get done or not,” she said. Despite the effort, director and writer Badrul Hisham Ismail said he finds it bizarre that in the country, the film industry falls under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, rather than the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

"One thing any filmmaker should understand is that there are different kinds of audiences for different kinds of films. There will be films that can have a huge audience, but there will also be films that will only cater to a small group and require a smaller setting and smaller independent distributions.

Jgn mimpi. Selagi ada finas, film industry kat malaysia will forever be shiite

Malaysia dont care and value their own art. All in name of religion we blocked the creative parts away and destroyed it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

😂😂😅😅😅😅 we do make good movies but to reach South Korea level I don’t think so .. yet let’s try competing with our closer neighbours Thailand and Indonesia first

Dream la....Korea height is too high la

bumilangit Anyone done an analysis on why our tv and film industry is so lacking? The backing’s not there, the returns are small, and the censorship’s archaic. Even our best comes out as over the top representations of Malaysian life. Now if they made more shows or movies about corruption..

Malaysia has zero chance. Race n religion politicised.

bumilangit Nasi kangkang movie was different level tho😂

Cannot, malaysian mindset set by Govt 20-30 backwards. Thats why we have this kinda shitty in our film industry

Don't ever dream with all the R & R policies.

Malaysian appreciation at sumthn still very low😢

It's impossible! Conservative FinasMy is the main obstruction!

Keep dreaming.

1 Mat Kilat, expect to dominate the world. Not bad. Dream big. Let's see how's the execution.

Not with the constant over-sensitive concerns over all kinds of silly things. And the money to be leached off from this industry is to small for them to fight for. Look at the contracts over in the Defence sector, everyone is eyeing that portfolio....

Korean standard? Try emulate Thailand first

Ohh mu Sofia Jane really aged gracefully ....

Never happening as long as we have ridiculous censorship and Zero support for multiculturalism

The higher ups in Bolehland & the Islamic extremists are not at all concerned about advancing art but only how they can enrich themselves through corruption MemHanyut BOLEHLAND will never reach the heights of South Korea or even Taiwan for that matter.
