Four First Coast suburbs rank among best in country

Four First Coast suburbs have been ranked in the top 100 in the country due to their workforce, affordability and livability, according to a new study from SmartAsset.

Specifically, data was compared for close to 500 suburbs located within 15 minutes to an hour by car of a large city — those with a population of 250,000 or more. To determine their ranking, SmartAsset analyzed 13 metrics across three categories: jobs, affordability and livability.

On the First Coast, Fernandina Beach, St. Marys, Yulee and Middleburg ranked among the 100 best suburbs in the U.S. Although suburbs near Houston, Dallas and San Antonio ranked the best in the South due to ranking well in the jobs category, which considers average incomes, job diversity and three other factors, Fernandina Beach was right on their heels. In particular, Fernandina Beach ranks second in this category overall with a median household income that is nearly 18% higher than the national average and five-year income growth that exceeds 46%.

Nationwide, Fernandina Beach ranked No. 11, St. Marys ranked No. 44, Yulee ranked No. 82 and Middleburg ranked No. 94.
