MELAKA: A defamation suit filed by a company selling health drinks against a 31-year-old doctor here has been dismissed by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court.

The company, which markets a health drink made with fruit juice, sued the doctor from Melaka Hospital over his Facebook post on Feb 28, 2022, warning the public to be cautious when purchasing drinks online.

He made the post after treating several patients who suffered severe complications from consuming the health drink. Judge Sabri Ismail on Wednesday dismissed the plaintiff's claim with costs of RM20,000 after evaluating and examining the evidence and having read written submissions by both parties. Dr Azhar, who was represented by counsels Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Vivi'Asnita Zaina'Larifin, had earlier submitted that the Facebook post was meant to advise and remind the public to be cautious when purchasing drink products online and was in no way defamatory to the plaintiff.
