The software giant is making more cuts to its Silicon Valley workforce.

Microsoft spokeswoman Asreeta Ushasri confirmed that the cuts in Mountain View and Santa Clara are part of that larger layoff.

The new cuts represent the second round of such reductions in the Bay Area as part of Microsoft's mass layoff. Last month, on the same day it announced its company-wide cuts, Microsoft alerted state officials itThe company is making the cuts in response to the slowing economy and changes in the market, CEO Satya Nadella. The software giant plans to give cut workers"above average" severance, and provide health care coverage for six months, Nadella said in a blog post.
