Audrey Peters said the family should have purchased their seats earlier instead of expecting her to take a middle seat.“I would simply never ask. “I am not a villain for not moving from the seat in first class I paid full fare for. Not my problem that a family didn’t get seated together. If the swap is like for like (aisle for aisle, or even window) then I’d usually do it. But no way in hell would I take a middle seat and give up an aisle, or an upgraded seat, especially on a long flight. Sorry.

Many times, I've traded seats in 4,000,000 miles flying on airlines. I can count the times I have asked on 1 hand. There are times when you book & there are no side by side seats in the class you are flying. I even swapped from 1st to coach so a mom could fly with her daughter.
The airlines need to just put an end to this nonsense. If you want to sit together, book seats together. Your lack of planning isn’t anyone else’s problem.

I purposely book the flights with my wife and child sitting next to each other. I try and sit in the row behind or further away. She has no idea. I don't like sitting next to kids on flights.
