Former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng told a fake South Korean company that he could organise meetings with ex-PM Boris Johnson in a sting operation set up by campaign group Led By Donkeys

Former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng told a fake South Korean company that he could organise meetings with ex-PM Boris JohnsonMr Kwarteng was among several MPs who interviewed with the made-up firm, with some offering their services as consultants for up to £10,000 a day.

Following a suggestion from the fake interviewer that he’d like to meet Mr Johnson, Mr Kwarteng said: “I’m sure you will, I mean, let’s talk, I’m sure we can try and arrange that.”Mr Kwarteng was also recorded claiming he could balance his role as a backbench MP alongside attending board meetings in South Korea for the fictional firm, claiming: “I can do that. I’m very flexible.”

Setting out his credentials for the role, he said: “I would say [in] my generation in the UK, there are very few people who had the breadth of experience I’ve had across business and politics at this level.” There is no accusation of wrongdoing, with MPs permitted to seek employment outside of Parliament. There is also no suggestion Mr Johnson was aware of Mr Kwarteng’s conversation.

Led By Donkeys, a progressive group known for viral stunts and unconventional marketing campaigns opposed to Brexit, said it created a sham company called Hanseong Consulting, setting up a website and paying for a so-called “fake virtual office” in the South Korean capital Seoul.
