The BBC is seeking a swift resolution after Twitter branded it as “government funded media.” Britain’s national broadcaster is predominantly funded by UK households via a license fee, which is also required to watch non-BBC channels or live services. This is supplemented by income from commercial operations. The @BBC account – which has 2.2 million followers – is currently branded as government funded.

We are funded by the British public through the licence fee.” The BBC received the label after a similar one was given to America’s National Public Radio . Twitter initially designated the US broadcaster as “state-affiliated media,” putting it on a par with Russian propaganda network RT and China’s Xinhua News Agency. Following backlash from NPR – who said it would not tweet from the account while the label was in place – it was instead changed to “government funded media.

They're now 'publicly funded' because of fees paid by UK households? Did the below happen? 'government will cut the BBC’s funding by ordering a two-year freeze on the fee that viewers pay to watch the broadcaster, the Mail on Sunday reported.'

To be fair, Elon Musk didn't say the BBC was funded by the British government 😏 CIA

The arrogance of the BBC - like spoilt brats. How dare anyone call us ‘government funded’ when we are in fact .... government funded.

It is though. Tory UK funded and funded by apartheid Israel as their zionist hasbara stenographers.

They should add cnn

Twitter ain't wrong.

While technically untrue considering the current state of BBC... it is factual.

ali_naka If we are keeping it real even CNN deserve a political funded media 👊🏽

Gonna be hard to Resolve it when the BBC admits that 71% of it's funding is from taxes...taxes I might add will result in jail time if you use a TV but don't pay...

Well it is... 😄

It is the truth, even with solid proof.

😂😂😂 Twitter could have qualified it to 'US and its Allies funded media'

It can get over it, just like NPR can. If you receive taxpayer dollars from the home country, you are indeed a government funded media. It is what it is, you can always stop taking those funds and go private. 'British Broadcasting Corporation' 'National Public Radio'…

It is 🤷‍♀️

The BBC is funded by the licence fee, not the government.

Yeah the BBC is completely independent of government

Twitter is a private company - it can label the BBC how it likes

SilverKayondo Wait, govt taxes the people by making them buy licenses and then gives the money that runs BBC to that organization... and that isn't govt funded? Then neither are their armed forces, NHS, etc. lol.

It's literally government funded though

It will cost you $8 per month.

Twitter did the same to NPR

It is, so is the cbc in Canada

What resolution? They did the same with a few of the other media houses.

Just confirmation of what everyone knows 🤷‍♂️

Is it not? Funded by the British public through the licence fee... The fee is set by the British Government, agreed by Parliament. This means nothing, it's just a stunt from Musk on these 'independent' media outlets. Of course only the non-western media is state-affiliated.

BBC = Bought By Conservatives

It is true BBC is British funded media organisations
