Sam Mostyn appointment: a first governor-general from the business world

Ms Mostyn was a vocal supporter of a Yes vote in last year’s constitutional referendum on the Indigenous Voice. In her announcement press conference, she stressed her particular respect for “the democratic will of the Australian people when it comes to our constitutional arrangements”.In other times, Ms Mostyn might have become an appointed or even elected president of an Australian republic. But the overreach of the Voice has now put the republic into the too-hard basket.
