Dreams dashed: 'Business forums' turn R11bn Mega City project into site of broken promises

The first thing Mapule Morakabe sees when she leaves her shack in Seporong informal settlement is the home she was promised six years ago.

Her dream home lies beyond the railway line that separates the shacks from the incomplete, abandoned houses that formed part of the R11-billion Montrose Mega City project she was supposed to have been living in by now. Morakabe speaks of how she and more than 500 of her neighbours were bused to Randfontein on 14 November 2017 for the project's launch, where they were served lunch and entertained with live music.
