The main industry in the island province of Camiguin is tourism. From 2016 to 2022, the province’s growth was comparatively slow over the previous nine years, and its income did not significantly increase.

The current population based on the 2020 Census is 92,808. The island has 5 municipalities: Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, Sagay, and Mambajao, the capital. The entire province hosts some 58 barangays and is a lone district, 42 of which are coastal barangays. Camiguin’s area is some 241.44 square kilometers with a population density of 380 per square kilometer. In terms of area it is ranked 80th out of 81 provinces.

Despite the island province’s abundance of natural resources and tourism potential, poverty is still a major issue and the average Camigueno deems development somewhat elusive. Camiguin’s share of the Northern Mindanao region’s GDP is a mere 1.2%, which is lower than the rest of its neighbors.
