Macpherson says he will demand bi-weekly progress reports on the reconstruction of Parliament.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean He also says he will be hands-on with the project to ensure that it is completed on time and within the budget.Parliament is currently under reconstruction. The work until now, has focused on ensuring the structural integrity of the gutted buildings and removing rubble. Some members of parliament complained this week that the project was taking too long.

Parliament is compelled to follow regulatory requirements, including restoring the heritage aspect of the buildings and following procurement processes. Just over R2 billion has been earmarked for the reconstruction project but the final cost of the project is yet to be determined. The oversight committee of public works and infrastructure says it too will keep a close eye on the project.
