Shares surge by more than 150% based on the offer price, as the maker of non-meat burgers and sausages makes its market bow.

It said in a statement via its Twitter account:"Thrilled to announce that today we became the 1st plant-based food company to go public on a major exchange.

Other potential concerns include a wealth of competitors in the sector as meat-free products take off. According to business data firm Nielsen, US sales of plant-based"meats" are up 42% in just three years.A growing number of restaurant chains are offering meat-free protein dishes on their menus as they look to associate their brands with a healthier eating message and a more environmentally friendly method of food production.

I’m really enjoying some of these new products - certainly a buy!

Ridiculous pricing. Iceland’s vegan range is better for a fraction

stu_pow1897 these what your waiting for?

give me real meat, none of that fake shit. a nice T-bone steak! BEEF

Investors may be hungry but these are not really targeted towards most people. In Tescos, they cost 24.30 per kilo, the most expensive burgers in their 'finest' range cost 6.60 per kilo, Sirloin steak costs 16.70. So you are paying four times the price to eat imitation meat.

If that meat ends tasting like broccoli...

I have had it here in the USA, sold at Whole Foods, very good

Give it a few years and on a slow news day, they will be reporting the stuff is carcinogenic

A cow makes 120kg of methane per year. Which is 23 times worse than co2 says pinkos. An acre of hay sequesters 15 tons of co2 per year. So hay 30,000 lbs of co2. A cow is 6072 lbs. 120x2.2x23. Most farmers run 1 cow per acre So technically all this is a lie.

I was hesitant but it was actually pretty good

Yuck. Keep it. I'll stick to organic grass-fed beef.
