African National Congress President Cyril Ramaphosa has implored party members to conduct themselves in the manner that will raise the standing of the party in society.
In one of the diagnostic reports after the 2016 elections, it was found that the ANC is losing popularity because it is seen as organisation of leaders that are aloof and distant from the people. Recently Mineral Resource and Energy Deputy Minister Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabala posted on social media boasting about her expensive clothing.
Ramaphosa says such things and conduct will make it difficult to improve the ANC’s standing amongst South Africans. “If we live lavish lifestyles through which we show ourselves to be better than our people and appear to only look after our own then not even the best communication strategy will improve our standing amongst our people. The renewal of the ANC must be reflected in our everyday behaviour on how we conduct ourselves in public platforms and what we post on social media. Let us not occupy headlines for wrong reasons, let us be known for excellence and competence.
