Waymo announces expansion of service at Sky Harbor Airport on the heels of a $5 billion investment from its parent company Alphabet as the driverless taxi service expands its reach.

Parent company Alphabet announced it's investing $5 billion to expand the reach of driverless vehicles. After touring the Waymo warehouse, the reasons why are becoming clearer.The company is running on a high note. Rides are up, it's territory is expanding and money is pouring in.

It's added 90 square miles of territory in the Phoenix-metro area. Rides in all its markets are up to more than 100,000 a week. And now, with an additional $5 billion bonus from its parent company, more of the AI-powered cars will be on the roads in the near future."The size of Waymo's fleet is currently under 1,000 vehicles. It's going to take many years before Waymos and robotaxis in general become ubiquitous.
