Labor Market

It was a rough day for the stock market. All three of the major indexes (^DJI,^GSPC, ^IXIC) closed in the red, with the Nasdaq composite down 2.5%. The big...

. The US economy added 142,000 jobs last month, far short of the 165,000 Wall Street was anticipating, but it was also likely strong enough totells investors the markets are nearing the end of a normalization process, advising them to stay calm amid the turbulence.

Its worst weekly performance going all the way back to 2022 and off a steep 2.5% or so on the session. But, you know, I think really what we're seeing is that we had this, you know, pretty big wall of worry build up at the uh the beginning of, of August after the, the sell off and markets probably climbed that wall of worry a bit, a bit too fast.

So, um you know, we think it's the last leg of the normalization process that frankly, you know, needs needs to happen. And Dan, I know that you like health care, you have liked health care, you guys have been overweight there. I mean, it clearly went up and as uh as it looks more likely that Kamala Harris could be become the uh pre the next president. So, yeah, there absolutely is a connection with politics here.

It has to say, yeah, we're comfortable with the national security implications and it sounds like what's going to happen is Biden's Cus which is chaired by Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen is gonna say we have, we have some national security concerns here.So um the steelworkers have opposed this all along and Biden is basically doing what the steelworkers want, which is he's giving cover to blocking this deal.

So, you know, I assume there's some bluffing in that, but I, my guess is no one is saying this publicly, which is why I dug into it.They know what's going on with the election.I mean, they, they could lose patience with this whole thing but, you know, for sure, um, us steel can hold on another two months.

The uh those like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta oracle, NVIDIA and others, those that are uh looking to build these facilities, data centers and house their server equipment so they can provide services to their customers.Um Some of these data centers had to be located in cold places um in part because of the cooling um that was employed.

And uh we think that we think there will be incremental capital of, of those deployments relative to uh improving performance and locating these facilities closer and closer uh to population centers and, and the ultimate consumers.I I'm curious, are you all able to find all the workers you need to get the job done?Uh You know, the United States doesn't have enough industrial land first and foremost and we don't have enough uh skilled workers.

Yeah, Julie, look, we, we think that the, the uh demand trends are not only durable uh but, but they're accelerating. Plus in Big Tech Apple is set to unveil the iphone 16 which will be the first to feature Apple Intelligence.Apple could also unveil a new slate of watches and airpods and moving over to the economy. And in addition to CP I will also be getting the latest producer price index data for August on Thursday total. We're not worried about those numbers anymore, worried about the numbers that came out today.Be sure to come back Monday at 3 p.m.
