Counterfeit Money,Abilene,Texas

A local business owner in Abilene, Texas is warning other small businesses after a customer used a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase liquor from her store. The owner of Abby's Bottles & Brew says she did not realize the bill was fake until the next day and that another local business contacted her after the same man allegedly used a counterfeit bill at their store.

"Well, on Monday we had a gentleman come in and purchase some liquor here at the store and used a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase it," partner at Abby's Bottles & Brew, Debbie Glen, said. "We didn’t realize it right away, there are measures to use, you know, such as the pen to be able to check the 100 dollar bills, but at that time we didn't do it. However, we did take the $100 bill and found out the next day that it was a counterfeit.

"So you’ll see a difference between counterfeit money and motion picture money, or fake money," Detective Hambright said. "Many of them, like here on the $50, it says motion picture money. But what will happen is whenever somebody pays with this, they’ll fold it, or they’ll have it in a way, and the cashier is trying to hurry. So we just, kind of, employ people to take their time, open the bills, check them all, use a pen like this.
