KUALA LUMPUR: The halal industry can complement the Islamic economy, as it is inclusive and comprehensive, and gives a positive impact on the broader community, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"In achieving the goals of the MADANI Economy and the principles of Maqasid Shariah, it must engage nearly the entire population," he said during the launch of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2024. He noted that they have shown significant interest in the halal industry and have recognised the role of the Malaysian government and authorities in driving its growth, adding that they are also seeking Malaysia’s cooperation to boost trade and investment, including in halal-related sectors.

During the launch, Anwar presented the Special National Halal Development Excellence Award to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in recognition of his contributions to the halal industry.Abdullah was chosen as the first recipient of the award, as both the inaugural MIHAS in 2004 and the establishment of the Halal Development Corporation in 2006 took place during his tenure as Prime Minister.
